Yuvini Perera
This fund is named in the memory of Yuvini Rashmitha Perera, who passed away suddenly and unexpectedly in the Walter Harrison Law Library on 27 October 2025, just days shy of completing the final semester of the final year of her Law and Economics dual program at The University of Queensland. Her degrees were awarded posthumously by the University at the December 2025 Law Graduation ceremony.
Quite apart from being a high-achieving student at both secondary school and university, Yuvini was a gifted, multi-award-winning pianist. At just 13 years of age, she had already completed all the practical exams for the Pianoforte Diploma. At the same age, she received a heart transplant, as well as tragically losing her mother, Anusha.
In addition, Yuvini was a champion chess player, while also representing Tasmania in national table tennis competitions. As a law student, Yuvini earned the respect and friendship of all those got to know her. She carried her signature smile wherever she went. She loved UQ and had, in preference to employment offers received from the federal government, chosen to enter the Future Leaders Graduate Program with the Queensland public service, which she was to commence in early 2026.
Yuvini held the UQLA White Scholarship — in honour of The Honourable Dr Margaret White AO and Dr Michael White OAM QC — in 2021, 2022 and 2023. She was a fine ambassador for the Scholarship.
