What is Yuvini’s Fund?
Yuvini’s Fund is a new fund held and managed by the TC Beirne School of Law at The University of Queensland.
The fund is named in honour of an early recipient of a UQLA Scholarship, Ms Yuvini Perera, who tragically passed away in the Walter Harrison Law Library on 27 October 2025.
The purpose of Yuvini’s Fund is to help undergraduate law students who are in financial need, including by facilitating top-up payments to be made to UQLA Scholarships where necessary.
The need for top-up payments arises because the UQLA Scholarships are quite modest (eg $4500 per annum).
Even with part time work, this funding is usually not enough to cover a student’s costs of living away from home – particularly when unexpected medical or other costs arise.
For some students, this gap can be covered by other scholarships or Centrelink payments.
For students who can’t cover this gap, however, we are hoping that Yuvini’s Fund will be able to assist.
Yuvini’s Fund is intended to operate through a large number of supportive alumni all making a small annual donation ($50).
Collectively, these contributions should be enough to make a real difference to law students in need.
For tax purposes, The University of Queensland is a deductible gift recipient.
